چکیده

In this paper, we present a game theoretic framework for obtaining a user-optimal load balancing scheme in heterogeneous distributed systems. We formulate the static load balancing problem in heterogeneous distributed systems as a noncooperative game among users. For the proposed noncooperative load balancing game, we present the structure of the Nash equilibrium. Based on this structure we derive a new distributed load balancing algorithm. Finally, the performance of our noncooperative load balancing scheme is compared with that of other existing schemes. The main advantages of our load balancing scheme are the distributed structure, low complexity and optimality of allocation for each user. © 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Bounds on Benefits and Harms of Adding Connections to Noncooperative Networks

In computer networks (and, say, transportation networks), we can consider the situation where each user has its own routing decision so as to minimize noncooperatively the expected passage time of its packet/job given the routing decisions of other users. Intuitively, it is anticipated that adding connections to such a noncooperative network may bring benefits at least to some users. The Braess...

Noncooperative Migration of Execution Context in Java Virtual Machines

The migration of the execution context has been applied to remote execution and mobile agents, and noncooperative migration can be applied to even more applications, such as load balancing. We have therefore designed a system for the migration of Java threads, one that allows noncooperative and heterogeneous migration of the execution context of the running code. This paper describes an overvie...

Load Balancing Approaches for Web Servers: A Survey of Recent Trends

Numerous works has been done for load balancing of web servers in grid environment. Reason behinds popularity of grid environment is to allow accessing distributed resources which are located at remote locations. For effective utilization, load must be balanced among all resources. Importance of load balancing is discussed by distinguishing the system between without load balancing and with loa...
